Did you know that you can save tomato seeds right from the fruit?

First, choose a tomato that you absolutely love—one that you could eat a garden full of! Then slice the tomato in half and scoop out the seeds, place into a container, add a couple tablespoons of water and cover with plastic wrap with a few holes poked in the top. Place the container on a windowsill, the sun will help the mixture ferment. A scummy layer will grow on the top—don’t be afraid. After two or three days, skim off the top layer and strain the seed and water mixture. Shake and place on a paper plate or towel in a single layer to dry. Once they are dry you can store them in paper envelopes or plastic bags until you are ready to plant.
