Diane Rast-Stalford Creative Director of Red Tomato

Meet Diane!

I’m Diane, Red Tomato’s Creative & Packaging Director, and the person behind our visual identity for the past 29 years. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, I have a respect for culture and its differences. I bring a deep love of color, story, and nature into everything I create. From its inception, I have watched Red Tomato and EcoCertified evolve and helped in shaping the look and feel from creating our logos, defining the visual story, and making sure our brand reflects the heart of our mission. And the amazing part is that there is so much more to come!

Why Red Tomato?

Red Tomato has been part of my life from its start, and my passion for this work is just as strong today as it was on day one. I love helping the team bring ideas to life through thoughtful design and responsible packaging choices. I work closely with our growers, customers, and internal teams to ensure everything we produce feels cohesive, meaningful, and is produced in the best way possible.

Tell us about you!

In 2016, I became a beekeeper and loved every minute of it! Then in 2023 I moved from the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina to Otsego, Michigan and was advised not to pursue beekeeping until I became familiar with my new environment. So now, I raise 10 chickens and 2 undesirable but very cute roosters, I have a large garden that always consists of garlic, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, lettuce and a bunch of herbs. I love to cook… to me that is also part of creating and I find it very relaxing. I am also a lover of nature and wildlife particularly birds. I have about 10 feeders in my yard not to mention 4 parakeets in my house along with 3 medium sized parrots! My move to Michigan was to be closer to my son, Josh and his 4 children. They are a mere 24 minutes away from me; I see them often and love it! For me, life is never boring!

What’s the fruit or vegetable you’re always excited to see come into season?

This is a tough question because there are really 2 that are signs of Spring coming on and then Summer. Love strawberries. But later, the heirloom tomatoes. It is such a great feeling to bite into a juicy, perfectly ripened Cherokee… so flavorful…
