Meet Alessandra!

I am the Trade & Marketing Associate here at Red Tomato. I met Red Tomato through my graduate program, Agriculture, Food & Environment at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy. I worked as an intern on an East Coast broccoli supply chain research project and never left! I am constantly impressed by the diversity of work across the food system that this tiny nonprofit achieves, and I love the opportunities to work closely and support the farmers in this region – their produce is truly the best.

Why Red Tomato?

This small team does it all, and I’m so proud to support and build up local and regional food systems alongside them. In my position, I’m enmeshed in every aspect of local food – from production to selling it to marketing it to customers and educating folks on EcoCertified – and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Tell us about you!

I grew up in Wisconsin, and hopped around the Midwest conducting pollinator research post-grad before moving to Boston and falling in love with the Northeast.

In my free time, I’m at my pottery studio, exploring the incredible green spaces in the Northeast, or enjoying a big meal with my family.

Red Tomato has turned me into a local apple fanatic! I love the opportunities in New England to explore new-to-me varieties (Macoun! Evercrisp!) throughout the apple season and support the delicious fruits coming from the RT grower network.

Currently cooking?

Anything and everything from my CSA! The Somerville farmers’ market is a staple on the weekends. Lately, I’m cooking a lot of grilled veggies (sometimes tossed on top of a pizza) and big, fresh salads or homemade pickles!
