Alessandra Cancalosi

Food Distribution Manager

Meet Alessandra!

I am the Food Distribution Manager here at Red Tomato. I worked as an intern in 2020 on an East Coast Broccoli Supply Chain Research Project, and came on full-time in 2021 to support the food distribution and marketing teams. For the past few years, I have been growing our farm to school and farm to institution programs as the Food Access Manager, and I’m excited to take on our wholesale and retail distribution in 2026 and beyond. I am constantly impressed by the diversity of work across the food system that this tiny nonprofit achieves, and I love the opportunities to work closely and support the farmers in this region – their produce is truly the best.

Why Red Tomato?

This small team does it all, and I’m so proud to support and build up local and regional food systems alongside them. I’ve met the most dedicated, innovative and hardworking folks in the collaborative work we do, big or small. Working together and with farms to look for creative opportunities is my favorite part of the job.

Tell us about you!

I grew up in Wisconsin, and hopped around the Midwest conducting pollinator research before moving to Boston for my graduate program: Agriculture, Food & Environment at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy. Before long, my cat Georgie and I were falling in love with the Northeast (maybe me more so than her…then I convinced my entire family to move here!)

In my free time, I’m at my pottery studio, or I’m traveling, crafting or snacking with friends, or enjoying a big meal with my family.

Working at Red Tomato has turned me into a complete apple nerd. I love any opportunity to talk about and taste interesting regional varieties, and to support all the delicious fruits (and vegetables!) coming from the RT grower network.

What produce item could you happily eat on repeat?

Peaches!
